The Filming of Night Becomes Day: Behind the Scenes 2019

Experience and explore new paradigms for working and living in ‘limbo’.

Night Becomes Day  immerses audiences in the re-envisaging of meaningful living in a world that is reaching a tipping point of displaced people.

Somewhere in the world, one person is displaced every two minutes and by 2100, 100 million are predicted to be displaced by climate change alone (UNCHR).

Night Becomes Day is a behavior-change documentary that explores new paradigms of working and living in a world disrupted by displacement.

Together with 2D video scenarios, this film will deliver campaigns and professional training for therapists, medicos, teachers, human rights lawyers, and those in community development.

Synopsis:

Theo is a committed, occupational therapist managing human rights for the influx of over 60,000 people displaced from around the world to refugee camps in Greece.

Taking professional and personal risks, he works with teenager Sohail and artist Nakam, to unravel the secrets of working and living in ‘limbo’.  Of applying human rights to daily living, and building meaningful lives in thriving communities.

Through 360 and 2D video we step into their shoes and experience their journey from night to day – a journey anyone who’s ever felt lost can celebrate.

The most important source of motivation (to work in this field) is the communities themselves..” Salvador Simo Algado

Let’s look and learn through the eyes of the community.

Working together.

Our production employs local displaced persons, to learn about media and contribute to development with in-depth cultural intelligence. Co-design with all parties is central. Production reflects the story – this is not about ‘us and them’ – we are all on this journey.

This involves end-to-end development from concept through to film and Virtual Reality production. It includes additional instructional design and online course build with our e-Learning consultant, plus, communication and campaign strategies with our social impact manager.

A story delivered through mobile phone and/or Oculus Go.

Our key donor, World Federation of Occupational Therapy, combines the documentary with additional course work, student activities and resources, to deliver WFOT’s training for occupational therapists, world-wide.
