Funded by Family Safety Victoria, Reality Learning is pleased to have helped the transition of Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria’s intensive leadership training program into two 10 week interactive online courses for Victorian practitioners to once again join in 2021.
The online course Fast Track, provides mid-career and senior practitioners with the leadership skills required to advance their career within the family violence response and primary prevention sectors.
Drawing on learning from experts in the field, and hosted on Canvas LMS a user-friendly engagement was achieved for experts, participants and in-house technical support. Reality Learning’s efforts have ensured that the integrity of the course was maintained and able to be delivered online with high levels of engagement and learning development.
Howard Errey, as an educational technologist who is also a qualified and registered psychologist, took on the challenge to keep the learning experience personal, social and as easy to engage with as was the previous face-to-face workshops. Importantly the design’s integration of student-led online learning with three-hour weekly Zoom workshops, facilitates trust between expert presenters and participants.
The end program maintains meaningful discussions, peer learning and a consistent sense of community for building ongoing professional connections and support. All this combined with the application of learning to a workplace project, supported by a specialist mentor, provides a rich and meaningful learning experience.
Through the online course participants engage with themes on feminist leadership, advocacy, policy, staff and organisation development, partnerships, program design, and working in diverse settings.
With COVID-19 limiting the production of Reality Learning’s usual real life case studies, we devised small cases within the genre and course design’s logic by using Zoom recordings.
The first two streams have successfully run through 2021, with a call-out now for the next rollout. Reality Learning is incredibly proud to support this program and the work of frontline workers and leaders in preventing and responding to gender and domestic violence in Victoria.
